After doing some research, I have found that most of us, don’t even wash our faces before bed if in fact we bother to remove our make up! So, let’s look at the basics just to refresh in our minds what we should be doing. Also, let’s review the reasons behind these steps for morning and evening skin care. Removing make up is a no-brainer, really. Make up clogs pores, which enlarges them, and creates blackheads, whiteheads, and blemishes. At the very least, your pores will enlarge and stay that way without a healthy cleansing regimen.
So, here we go. Morning begins with a pre-cleanse oil to help moisturize and encourage oils produced by your skin overnight to break down. Next we wash with a cleanser appropriate for our skin type. Never use soap! Soap is just too drying for everyone’s complexion. Rinse with warm to cool water to help close those freshly cleansed pores. Next, moisturizing is important, and once again—be certain you have a moisturizer that is right for you! Last, but not least, apply a sunscreen with SPF 30. Applying sunscreen everyday will save you from 90% of possible skin damage over your lifetime! 90%!!! That’s huge!!! Please do it every single day.
That is just half of what needs to happen if you want to preserve and maintain your natural good looks. Here is the other half. No matter how tired, or any other excuse you are thinking of: Remove your makeup. You may use your pre-cleanse oil, or other appropriate make up remover. Cleanse your face, and then use a night moisturizer—heavier than daytime.
The reason this evening routine is so important is, your skin rebuilds itself at night. You will awaken with younger looking dewy fresh skin in the morning. Once you establish your routine, it is super easy to do it every morning and every night. I lay my products out in order of use—it makes it all super easy. My SPF 30 and night cream are aligned in the same space. Everything else is the same.
Those are the basics.
